Chronicle

120211 ChronicleMix one lonely,  bullied and abused teen with  a full cup of  Sci-Fi-Origins-of-a- potential-Super-Hero flavoring,  some actors you’ve never seen before, and Blair Witch-type videography -  if this recipe appeals to you, you’ll enjoy Chronicle.  I  do not understand how out of 4 possible flicks  for me to choose from to  see today that this was the only  one with any  “pro” critic’s rating of 100. I give it a 5 out of 10. Some parts of this are brilliant but  I neither seek nor desire a sequel.  Half the  theater laughed through  a quarter the movie,  and I definitely don’t think that was  the original intent. And no,  I didn’t think  it was that funny either. Your Mom & Dad would probably largely see it as pointless,   though  I didn’t rate it lower because it is entertaining; I just wish, yes, I’d seen Safe House or Journey instead. OK for my kids when they were 14 or older.  And  no it won’t make it into  my movie library.

The Bourne Legacy: now with Jeremy Renner!

Matt Damon is out of the Bourne movie franchise… In The Bourne Legacy, Jeremy Renner stars in the first of a parallel Bourne series as another unstoppable badass in the Outcome program.

The hugely popular espionage franchise has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office. Created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Finney, Allen, Strathairn and Glenn all reprise their roles.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Sequel Confirmed

The Wolverine, a follow-up to 2009′s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is apparently a real thing that’s happening. It’s even got an official release date: July 26th, 2013. Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Logan, aka Wolverine.

James Mangold, director of the star-studded 2007 reboot of classic  3:10 to Yuma western, is directing. Christopher McQuarrie, author of The Usual Suspects, wrote the script.

Contraband

120128 Contraband

Contraband is a tense,  hard driving nail-biting action thriller your Mom won’t like for the foul language. Dad would be OK with it   because it’s a heist flick with twists and turns. Not  recommend for a child 15 years of age or under. My rating: 5 out of 10. Nuff said.

Lucas Done With Star Wars Films?

If his statements during a recent interview with the New York Times are any indication, we’re not going to see any more Star Wars movies from George Lucas.

“Why would I make any more,” Lucas says of the “Star Wars” movies, “when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?”

Course he  has a point honestly. He catches a lot of shit from fans whenever he tries to do anything new with the franchise in the way of film.

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

120102 Girl w the Dragon Tattoo

8 out 10: good story, good execution, violent! A terse, dark,  thrilling account  of an investigation into a serial killer that flows well and reads like a book with  varied imagery and description of killings, dialog that moves and a plot you won’t get ahead of  to figure out whodunit. Some steamy sex scenes and some  quite violent including bondage and a rape; the crimes would keep me from allowing my children 15 or 16 and under from seeing this, though Mom & Dad would love the story while  I’d not be comfortable watching those steamy  and violent scenes with  my folks, so not a good family flick. Rooney Mara as Craig’s research assistant? Don’t know what else she’s been in,  but she has the perfect edginess  for her role in this and pulls it off really well.
