“I Live, I Love, I Slay…

img444… and I am content.”  Classic Conan the Barbarian. Hollywood's movie makers must think we don’t give a rat’s ass about plot, story and dialog. Conan’s pissed,  and he’s out for revenge. The “R” rating is fully deserved for extended, extensive scenes of extreme graphic violence  and several scenes with naked  bodies doing things too. Not a pick for a first  date flick! Co-Lar, Conan’s  evil nemesis  is very well acted. In fact, except for Co-Lar’s bitch witch daughter,  most the acting is, ah, appropriately OK in this well executed action  flick. Much as  it pulled me in, Conan The Barbarian is bloody and brutal beyond belief, so I feel a little guilty  saying I love early historical stories of pillage, plunder  and conquering – true, mythical, or otherwise, because  in this the bloodshed just flows into  blood and more blood and more blood. If you’re tolerant  of revengeful things  and some other pretty knarly stuff,  you’ll like this. Absolutely not  for any  child of mine 16 or under, and certainly not for squeamish adults. In fact,  my 17 year old closed his eyes through many scenes, so forewarned is forearmed. A 6 out of 10  that Dad would like but Mom would not tolerate -  not  because  of the language -  but the incessant violence and nudity.

I’ve got A Secret, 1957

Many my friends watched this show in childhood…

…however, probably not this one particularly interesting historical airing. I’ve Got A Secret is the original reality TV show.  It’s interesting to see the show  gave gave away cigarettes  and $100 cash to contestants  whose identity the panel failed to guess.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes

110805 Rise of the Planet of the ApesWhile fun, smart, and enjoyable,   I found  “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” violent and void of a real plot, unlike most top tier SciFi flicks. A solid  7  out of 10 rating  though, because it is entertaining,  and  for the incredible display of advances in animation where the animal faces are all truly  apelike  and expressively real – amazing! -  not at all like the wax figures of previous iterations in this series which are fixed and lifeless. Not here - you’ll  feel for Caesar as the story unfolds.  This installment of “Apes” doesn’t follow, lead into,  or signify anything from previous  installations in the series. I don’t think Mom & Dad would like it so I’d never pick  it for a family movie night, and its not for  any child under 12 IMO.

SYTYD Season 8 finale

Go Melanie - she did a full back bend while in splits in her solo - amazing! and Tadd, B-Boy extraordinaire tonight at 8P. Last night SYTYCD almost out did itself compared to last weeks par excellence performances for entertainment value. I'm going to try to get tix for this entourage when they pass through here.

Side note: at first not recognizing Christina Applegate,  but I felt  she fit right  in as guest judge.  SYTYCD  should  consider guest changes as a regular  part of the show if the could get them to  keep with Christina's “fit right in” persona.
