While fun, smart, and enjoyable, I found “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” violent and void of a real plot, unlike most top tier SciFi flicks. A solid 7 out of 10 rating though, because it is entertaining, and for the incredible display of advances in animation where the animal faces are all truly apelike and expressively real – amazing! - not at all like the wax figures of previous iterations in this series which are fixed and lifeless. Not here - you’ll feel for Caesar as the story unfolds. This installment of “Apes” doesn’t follow, lead into, or signify anything from previous installations in the series. I don’t think Mom & Dad would like it so I’d never pick it for a family movie night, and its not for any child under 12 IMO.
