…is a fun thriller about a drug that makes you a genius. We’d all like a drug like NZT. Limitless is brisk paced – a fanciful, suspenseful thriller – Not for my children when 14 or under, and probably OK with Mom & Dad as long as the youngsters are in bed. There are scenes where Robert DeNiro reminds you why he’s the living legend that he his – his persona in the role fills and takes over the screen. The movie is not terrifically great, but it is entertaining and a good afternoon at the movies overall IMO.

The Eagle
Like Gladiator movies? Then lend me your ear, because I think you’ll like this one: an entertaining, honest adventure – a tale brought to life for 2 hours of story and sword fighting. Set in 120AD, Channing Tatum continues to expand his repertoire outside the realm of dance as Marcus Aralias, a Roman hero wounded in battle and bent on facing down the ghosts of his heritage and some internal angst as well, to finally avenge the death of his father to restore his family’s good name. He and Jamie Bell as his slave Esca, play off each other really well as their relationship does some serious role swapping in search of the truth about what happened to Marcus’ father. Donald Sutherland is stellar as the wounded Marcus’ uncle who supports Marcus in recovery before Marcus goes off to seek the truth. Based on a novel I had to read as an undergrad in Ancient World History years ago. Nice to see a movie void of CGI crap throughout, too. Not for my children 14 or under.
Take a trip back the 60’s…

… and flash back to the early days of Professor X and Magneto and their first students in the debut of X-Men: First Class. Currently due in theaters June 3rd
I love the fact these great comics books are able to be brought to life on the big screen! Lots of the characters are weird choices, but seeing Xavier and Magneto's origins as friends with wideningly different viewpoints sounds so great!

The Mechanic
It was absolutely terrific seeing Donald Sutherland – one of the D-Dad’s long time fav actors - back on the big screen in this action filled thriller where you're not sure if you can trust your mentor, your protégé, or the guy who takes you home after a night out of drinking – only the stripper you pay regularly for sex, it would seem. The original “Mechanic” was a Charles Bronson flick circa 1072. It must be lonely being a professional hit man and not knowing who you can or can not trust. All balls out action here in this version of the movie with not many moral redeeming moral values but lots of violence and content not suitable for children under 17 nor Mom & Dad either because Mom won’t like the language. Dad will like the story though, which is twisted, somewhat convoluted and has some surprises in it. Combine that with some dizzying acrobatic special effects – read that as “tasteful” for this action genre movie - but still, too bad the Directors didn’t capitalize on Sutherland’s tremendous acting power by focusing and integrating a bit more background on his character into the work – still: This is worthwhile entertainment for the action movie junkie in you. Jason Stratham is taking over over as the action hero to be.
